Artifacts of Light
YoyoGames (the makers of GameMaker) used to host game making competitions. At the start of the Summer of 2010, I decided to enter their fifth competition, for which the theme was "Design a HandHeld Game". I decided to take inspiration from an underground mining game I had seen, but to expand on it, and make a whole world around it. I ended up not being able to do as much as I wanted to, but this was by far the biggest project I had attempted at the time. At the end of the summer, I submitted my game, which ended up getting past the first round of judging (beating more than half of the other submissions), but not making it past that. Overall, I had a lot of fun working on it. Controls for the menu: arrow keys to move, space to select, "Z" to go back.
Click here to download the game Artifacts of Light (only runs on Windows). Note: it is an executable file, which you should generally not download from untrusted sources because it can be malware. This is not malware, but you shouldn't take my word for it; scan it with malware detection software before running it.
